End Duck Shooting
Each year, thousands of native ducks are brutally shot from the sky on Tasmania’s wetlands. These intelligent, social animals suffer immensely during the duck shooting season, with many birds left wounded to die slowly from their injuries. Experts state that as many ducks are wounded and left to die slowly as those that are shot and killed.
Recreational duck shooting was banned in Western Australia in 1990, New South Wales in 1995, and Queensland in 2000. ACT has never allowed duck shooting. Tasmania remains one of the few states that continues to declare an 'open season' on native waterbirds.
Native waterbirds deserve protection, not persecution.
The majority of Australians oppose this blood sport, and evidence to support a ban is overwhelming. Immense suffering, ecosystem disruption, and declining waterbird numbers are just some of the reasons to ban duck shooting in Tasmania.
